A special kind of tree house

Pine tree growing through a house in Milano Marittima, Italy.

A tree protected by law from damage or removal can make for an interesting entry way. The pine trees in Milano Marittima are among the protected, which may mean having to drill holes in one’s roof to accommodate them.

Stone Pines are centuries old, and their range covers Southern Europe, Western Asia, and Northern Africa. Some people have tried to grow offspring of these historic trees in other parts of the world, but you can find them in their natural masses around Milano Marittima.

The pinewood park is among their prime spots and has an extensive bike trail running to the nearby city of Cervia. The athletic will appreciate its spread of workout stations and exercise equipment along the way. If you make it to the end, you can reward yourself with hours of relaxation at a beach spa in Cervia. My pick was the Fantini Wave Spa, to be covered in the next post.
